With the sprocket remover the cassette lockring is loosened, which firmly connects the cassette with the freewheel. The freewheel has a thread and thus serves as a counterpart to the lock ring. In order to loosen this connection, the freewheel is held over the cassette with a chain whip and then the lockring is loosened with the sprocket remover. The cassette can then be removed. Chain whip and sprocket remover are therefore always used together.
